Who We Are
Bill Kalpakoglou
Owner, Creative Director
After studying commercial art and design, I launched my creative career as a freelance illustrator, but soon after, I discovered that I could combine my art and design background with my interest in programming. So, very soon after the birth of the mainstream internet, I taught myself web design, HTML/CSS, and Flash (ActionScript came later). I wanted my creativity to be enhanced by my tools and never limited by them, so I worked hard to reach "guru level" proficiency with Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign and other graphic software. As my career progressed, I balanced my print work with furthuring my web development skills. I taught myself ActionScript to be able to create immersive e-learning interactive modules and games for clients' sites. UI/UX design and concepting wireframes followed, and I added JavaScript to my skill set for client-side functionality. But I didn't like blindly handing over my work to developers without understanding what it is they did and I wanted more control of my sites, so I started developing PHP/MySQL which is what I used for the dynamic back end elements of VisionSpark, like the member login system. I've designed for mobile devices, and am currently studying Objective-C and developing mobile applications.
In working with huge list of clients, including some Fortune 500 companies, I have created websites, logos, corporate brand identity packages, direct mail, print and web ads, email campaigns, packaging, POP displays, event graphics, e-learning kits, Flash/ActionScript interactive modules and HTML micro-sites and many more.
I've worked directly as staff Graphic/Web Designer or Creative Lead for Eloqua, Gillette, ARCHIBUS, Goody Clancy, Ambit Press, and Total Learning Concepts. Through them or through freelancing, I've worked with: Inc. Magazine, Hale and Dorr LLP, HubSpot, HealthTalker, Color Kinetics, Oral-B, Duracell, Right Guard, Gillette International, Braun, Brown University, MIT, Harvard University, City of Boston, Princeton, Town of Brookline, University of Massachusetts, Purdue University, Trinity Church, Yale University, Abbott Laboratories, Genentech, Sanofi-Aventis, Amgen, Biogen, Astra-Zeneca, Mead Johnson, Novartis, Pfizer, Johnson & Johnson, Bristol-Meyers Squibb, Procter & Gamble, Glaxo-Smith & Kline, Boston Redevelopment Authority, National Endowment for the Arts, Ohio State University, Bank of Boston, The National Park Service, Members Mortgage Company, Hogan Tire, COSCO, Hyundai, Hapag-Lloyd, Maersk, Mitsui OSK, Idenix, Trinity Communications, Cambridge Graphics, Turn It Up!
